Wire O Notebook

Wire o notebook restricting, also known as twin loop wire, wire-o, double loop wire, double-o, ring wire, and a wire tie, is a popular commercial bookbinding method. Clients use this limiting method by embedding their punched pages onto a "C" molded spine and then crushing the spine with a wire closer until it is round.

Documents bound with wire or notebook binding open completely level on a work surface and allow for 360-degree rotation of bound pages. There are three common hole designs used in document restriction with double loop wire o notebook. Each hole design specifies the sizes and applications for which it is best suited. Here's a quick rundown of the various options.

The three to one pitch hole design is most commonly used to limit small measured documents with double loop wire. Spines for this limiting style are available in widths ranging from 4.8 mm to 14 mm. Wires with a three-to-one contribution ratio are not available in sizes larger than 14 mm. The hole design used for 3:1 pitch wire o notebook restricting can be either square or round.

Although a two-to-one pitch hole design is most commonly used to restrict larger estimated documents, it can also be used to restrict smaller distances across books. Wire O Notebook with a pitch of two to one is most commonly found in sizes ranging from 16 mm to 32 mm. However, a few manufacturers make exceptional little measured 2:1 pitch wire for restricting documents as small as 6.4 mm. RENZ GmbH owns the registered trademark for One Pitch®, a brand that depicts the small 2:1 pitch wires 1/4" through 1/2".

Previously, some comb restricting machines included a wire closer. These machines were designed to work with 19 loop wires. Nineteen loop wire is intended to be used in conjunction with a plastic comb as an example. This hole example will use longer rectangular holes with a 14 mm center hole.

This method of restricting was previously referred to as Ibiwire, which was Ibico's term for this method of restricting. When Ibico was purchased by the Overall Restricting Corporation, this type of clause was removed. Twisting O Wire is the modern name for the 19-loop wire o notebook.
